Sorbitan monolaurate is an organic compound with the chemical formula C18H34O6. It is an amber oily liquid, miscible with organic solvents and oils, and forms a semi-emulsive solution in water. It is produced by using sorbitol as raw material, dehydration and ring-closure to generate anhydrous sorbitol, and then carrying out esterification reaction with lauric acid. Mainly used in cosmetics, medicine, and textile industries as water-in-oil emulsifiers, wetting agents, and mechanical lubricants. Nonionic surfactant, used as emulsifier, stabilizer, thickener, lubricant, softener, antistatic agent, dispersant, co-solvent, anti-rust agent, finishing agent and spinning aid, etc.
